Next Stop, Allergies!
My new creation get the thumbs up. I have been drinking this today and it does taste good. It's very soothing, it does help breathing feel easier (and just after a few sips) nicely cooling but I like that warm component of the galangal, and its refreshingly light, makes the stomach feel less full. I genuinely feel better. Drink up!
It's always that time of year! Allergies play havoc with our health, that dreaded state of immune over activity can leave us in a state of despair.
Sipping some tea to settle things down makes sense, many OTC medicines can have a serious array of side effects leading to more complex issues and aggravating an already, stressed immune system. My tea was created with your health in mind, a long term solution to a very major issue. Naturally occurring anti-histamine benefits are loaded into this refreshing tea.
Now for some practical preventative advice.
Deciding what you eat will play an important role in reducing any allergy symptoms. Anti-inflammatory foods and foods rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals can help to prevent the severity of some of your symptoms. On the other hand, there are also foods out there which can worsen your allergies, the primary ones being inflammatory foods like red meat, dairy products, processed foods, fast foods, which can thicken your mucus production (not good if you have blocked sinuses already!) and refinded sugar which can stimulate the production of even more mucus!
My advice for less allergies? The closer your food is to its original state, the safer it is to put on your plate! You can’t go wrong with upping your organic, non sprayed, non GMO fruit, veg and nut intake (a few immune modulating mushrooms would not go amiss- chaga, shitake, reishi) doing this will help to give your body the proper nutrients it needs. Keeping a food diary can also be beneficial for helping to spot the areas where your diet could use a little improvement.
Get plenty of rest during the allergy high season, allow your body to rest when it needs to recouperate and restore the ability to control disease. No, not easy, a fast paced world leads to faster paced ill health. Be wise!
Ingredients: Organic blends of all, Nettle leaf, rosehips, peppermint, moringa, thyme, fuji apples, galangal powder.
Peppermint -The flavonoids in peppermint have been found to have a potent inhibitory effect on histamine from mast cells. It was particularly effective for allergic rhinitis, and has traditionally been used as an H2 antagonist.
Rosehips- Naturally bursting with Vitamin C in a stimulating natural form.
Nettle. While you may curse the plant for the temporary discomfort, stinging nettle is actually a beneficial perennial that treats several conditions. Perhaps its most popular use is turning the leaves into stinging nettle tea, which is a common natural allergy relief remedy
Moringa. The study, titled, “Investigation into the mechanism of action of Moringa Oleifera for its anti-asthmatic activity” concluded that Moringa has 4 important anti-asthma benefits: ... Mast Cell Stabilization: Moringa helps control allergic disorders by blocking the release of histamine.
Thyme. Thyme is a nutrient dense herb. It has exceptionally high levels of Vitamin C, combined with flavonoids, that stabilises mast cells. It also has anti microbial benefits.
Galangal. Galangal is also called “Thai Ginger” and is readily available at Asian grocers. It has a subtle delicate flavour that has a gingery, lemongrass, lightly floral flavour. A study shows that it is extremely effective at stabilising mast cells and preventing anaphylaxis.
Apples. The nutrients of apples are concentrated in the skin. Apples are not so much rich in one nutrient but have a wide range of flavonoids and polyphenols. A study has shown that they inhibit the release of histamines from mast cells.
